創辦人張其昀先生榮獲美國薜頓賀爾大學，又譯西東大學(Seton Hall University)頒贈名譽博士以表掦張其昀先生努力推廣知識的傳播。張其昀先生一生不但投身大學教育，同時對中小學教育作出很大貢獻，包括允許小學畢業後不用通過具競爭性的正規考試而直接升讀國中，此舉雖然引起當時立法院及新聞媒體的激烈討論，但文章作者對此行為表示讚賞。
另外，張其昀先生在任教育部部長期間推出多項文化與教育計劃，因此在台北植物園有一個感謝辭以表揚他不唯餘力的貢獻，而且當時很多圖書館及博物館都是得到他的足夠資金援助下才得以創立及持續發展。
在張其昀先生支持與鼓勵下贊助了很出出版，同時他寫了一定數量的論文，因此美國薜頓賀爾大學根據上述理由而授予他名譽博士銜頭。

Seton Hall Honors Minister Chang
We take great pleasure in congratulating Minister of education Chang Chi-yun on the honorary doctorate which has just been conferred on him by Seton Hall University of South Orange, New Jersey.
An eminent geographer, Minister Chang has been indefatigable in promoting the general diffusion of knowledge through all imaginable media. He has interested himself not only in collegiate and university education, but also in middle and primary school education. Though the system of allowing primary school graduates to enter junior middle schools without the formality of a competitive examination has been the subject of a heated debate In the Legislative Yuan and the press, the motive which has actuated Minister Chang in launching such an unprecedented project is laudable and entirely for the good of the young boys and girls affected.
In the short space of a little over three years since be became Minister of Education, Dr. Chang has succeeded in carrying out many cultural and educational projects which it would require a man of lesser energy a much longer time to implement. The complex of cultural and educational institutions located in a corner of the Botanical Garden in Taipei is a standing tribute to Minister Chang’s tireless efforts. While it is true that many of the libraries and museums that have been initiated by him are in need of sufficient funds before they can develop still further, the fact that they have been established at all is significant and must be credited to Minister Chang.
Another aspects of Minister Chang’s contributions to the promotion of education and culture has to do with the many publication of education and culture has to do with the many publications he has sponsored. This is not the place to enumerate all the books, magazines, pamphlets, and special studies or indirect assistance and encouragement. In the midst of all those tasks and administrative duties, Minister Chang has also found time to write a number of essays which are incorporated in his collected works. The honorary doctorate conferred on him by Seton Hall University is a fitting tribute to the Minister-scholar.
