Senior Chinese Scholars Honored by American Government

on the occasion of the Confucian rituals held in San Francisco in August this year, three senior Chinese scholars-Dr. Chang Chi-yun, founder of the Chinese Culture University, Dr. Chen Li-fu, chairman of the Confucius-Mencius Society, and Dr. Kung Teh-cheng, lineal descendent of Confucius, were presented by the American government with honorary cultural citations in recognition of their contribution to the promotion of Sino-American cultural interflow. The presentation ceremony, presided over by Dr. Robert Billings,special envoy of President Reagan, was held at the Empress of China in Chinatown, san Francisco, on Aug. 28. Dr. Kung received the citation in person, while Dr. Lin Yin and Dr. Pan Wei-ho received the citations on behalf of Dr. Chen and Dr. Chang, respectively. Some 1000 guests attended the ceremony, including Mr. Chung Hu-ping, director of the ROC Office in San Francisco, Lo Ming-yuan, vice chairman of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission, and the president of the University of California.
